Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a naturally occurring, organic, sulphur-containing compound related to another sulphur-containing substance called dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO).
According to Dr Brandy Ferrara at Livestrong, several common foods contain MSM including cow’s milk, coffee, tomatoes, tea, Swiss chard, beer, alfalfa sprouts and corn. You can also find MSM in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. (1)

- Reduce inflammation
- Improve digestion
- Purify blood
What are the benefits?
Relieves allergies
Methylsulfonylmethane could have an anti-histamine effect, which might help individuals who suffer from seasonal allergies such as hayfever.
Reduces inflammation
Methylsulfonylmethane helps to restore collagen production, which can reduce joint inflammation and improve flexibility. According to research, methylsulfonylmethane can lessen the symptoms of arthritis, joint pain, stiffness and improve mobility. (2)
It may improve digestion
It could improve digestion, and benefit individuals with stomach issues and individuals who are trying to lose weight. Methylsulfonylmethane may also reduce inflammation in the digestive tract by helping to rebuild the gut lining.
Removes toxins from the blood
MSM could be beneficial for skin conditions like acne and psoriasis, and might even work alongside silymarin to help manage rosacea. It may help to remove toxins from the bloodstream, which are reported to irritate skin problems because the skin helps to remove them. (3)
